The aims of Silver Stories are:
- To improve reading, literacy and communication skills
- To build self confidence
- To reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation
- To develop and maintain inter-generational relationships
There are Silver Readers who may wish to use their time with Silver Stories to count towards their Duke of Edinburgh award and we are proud to support any Silver Readers in this endeavour.
Whilst the period for achieving the award is finite, we have many Silver Readers who continue to read with their Silver Listener long after the completion of their involvement with the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The building of positive relationships is a key part of this continued involvement and exemplifies the impact that Silver Stories has for both Silver Readers and Silver Listeners alike.
Silver Readers Undertaking Duke of Edinburgh Award
As the creators of Silver Stories we can, and are happy to, complete your Duke of Edinburgh Assessor report and we prefer to undertake this task online.
To complete the Assessor Report we ask that you provide us with the following information:
1. Your DofE ID number,
2. Your award level (Bronze, Silver or Gold)
3. The section under which you are being assessed against (volunteering)
It would also be helpful if, as a Silver Reader, you could keep a record of:
1.Your start date with Silver Stories
2.The number of occasions you have read to your Silver Listeners
3.Any supportive comments which may have been made by your Silver Listener
4.Whether you are intending to continue to read to your Silver Listener after the completion of your Assessor report.
Duke of Edinburgh Assessor Reports are completed by David Carney-Haworth OBE
