Children, “Silver Readers”, telephone older people, “Silver Listeners”, to read to them once a week.
After every ten reading sessions, our Silver Readers can down load a certificate which can be displayed in their schools. By linking readers to older people by telephone, we aim to combat the loneliness and isolation that can be felt by older people, to create intergenerational relationships and to offer children a richer reading experience.
Both David and Elisabeth have witnessed first-hand how magical the relationship between the generations can be. The weekly phone calls arranged by schools to matched older people have created a way in which these relationships can be fostered whilst also benefiting the participating adults and children.
